Nurani’s impressive transformation is a credit to his hard work in the gym and in the kitchen, and the skill of his UP personal trainer.
He lost 11kg during his transformation journey, built lean muscle and shed more than a third of his body fat.
Two huge factors in transforming his physique were the diet and the training programme put together by his world-class PT.
Before Nurani would switch between eating salads and then bingeing on fatty or unhealthy foods – something he now knows wasn’t doing him any good.

His training too went from just going through the motions and doing the standard three sets of 12 on gym machines, to a programme of compound lifting which helped him build his impressive new body in a short space of time.
Nurani explains how he did it and what effect his transformation has had on his health, his appearance and his energy levels…
What were your expectations going into the 18 weeks and what were your motivations?
When I started seriously working out in 2013, I used to weigh a whopping 97kg and my motivation, at that time, was to lose some weight and feel better about myself.
I managed to bring down my weight to 87kg and initially felt good. But in mid-2016, I seriously wanted to reduce my body fat which was still hovering around 30%.
I struggled hard in the gym but didn’t make any noticeable difference except that I looked bulkier with fat mass in all the wrong places.
I found out about Ultimate Performance and how they managed to transform many individuals globally. Since UP gym was very close to my workplace, I dropped an email for an appointment with Chris. When I met Chris, he immediately knew what I wanted and explained what process would be followed to reach my goal to reduce my body fat and build six-pack abs which I seriously doubted if I would ever have.
I knew the next 18 weeks would be tough, but I was excited to give my all out for the transformation.
Can you tell me how you were feeling both physically and mentally before starting the 18 weeks?
Before the 18 weeks, physically, I hated the load of fat mass I had in unwanted places and was mentally frustrated as I didn’t know any way of getting rid of that.
I almost believed that maybe it was because I was already 46 years old and it was not possible to increase the metabolic rate. I was both physically and mentally at a point where I was giving up on going further into fitness but wanted to give one last try at Ultimate Performance.
What was your diet and lifestyle like before you started the 18 weeks?
Before the 18 weeks, I always thought eating salad was healthy, so if I binged on fatty or unhealthy food, I would switch to salad for the next few meals until I felt better.
That diet was not doing anything good for me. I was very regular in going to the gym but I would just work out like a typical beginner – three sets of 12 reps on each machine without understanding the mechanics behind it. My back and shoulders were weak, my chest was stronger so I had a front-tilted posture.
How did your diet and lifestyle change when you started the 18 weeks?
Right from the first training day at Ultimate Performance, Sam prepared a programme for me for both diet and workout.
He emphasised a lot on the importance of diet. Before then I had no clue that diet played such an important role.
The workout schedule he prepared mainly involved compound exercises which I had never done in my life before. The first two weeks of low carb diet and intense workout was tough, but I saw changes in me which made my resolve even stronger.
What effect did this have on your health, performance, lifestyle and energy inside and outside the gym?
After the first two weeks of struggle, my body got used to the diet and the intense workout schedule and I started feeling more energetic and could see visible changes in my body.
I felt lighter physically and more agile mentally. Sam encouraged me to give my everything and it definitely paid off.
I discovered that even if physically I felt a bit weaker, mentally I could convince myself to push all the way. It was a revelation to me.
How did you find the training and did it fit around your busy lifestyle?
Training was intense and I loved it. I could sense changes in me after every workout. My trainer took a personal interest in what I ate and would always advise and encourage me to stay on the right path towards goal. The training definitely suited my work schedule and my trainer was very accommodating in adjusting the timings a couple of times because I had meetings that clashed with the workout hours.
What were your results like after the 18 weeks?
The results were incredible after 18 weeks. I had only dreamed of getting the six-pack, and at the end of 18 weeks I achieved it and I was so damn proud of myself.
This was life-changer for me and I couldn’t have done it without the personal attention from Sam and Ultimate Performance. What started as a gamble at the start of the18 weeks, ended with the definite result of six-pack abs.
What were the most important things you learned during your 18 weeks and what really worked for you in helping you make your transformation?
The most important things I learned in these 18 weeks were:
1) Nutrition – After this 18 weeks, I now measure and record everything I eat. I have lot more knowledge about macros and how carb cycling and carb refeeding work to increase the metabolic rate.
2) Compound exercises – I learned that compound exercise and other strength exercises are the best way to keep the body’s metabolic rate high.
3) Age is just a number.
How has doing this transformation changed you and do you think it will benefit you going forward?
This was the best thing that has happened to me in my whole life. I feel more confident about myself. I get praise from my colleagues and family on how fit and young I look.
