When Brent turned 45, he faced up to the fact that he was overweight.
As a deskbound accountant, he had actually all-but given up hope of ever getting fitter.

“I had grown sceptical that I could ever make significant progress and considered myself to be generally a healthy eater whose body was as in good a shape as it was ever going to be – given my age and lifestyle.”
Brent signed up for a 12-week transformation but wasn’t sure if he would be able to achieve the kind of transformations he saw on the walls at U.P. Sydney.
But as someone who loves a challenge, he dived right into his U.P. program with complete commitment.
“My motivation for joining U.P. was that I wanted to get into better shape and then I thought if I was going to have a midlife crisis, it was going to be a great one to have.
“I had never ever had a six-pack and looking at the U.P. website and looking at the transformation journey, everyone seems to get one in the end.
“I thought I need to give that a go and see if I can actually get it.”
Twelve weeks later Brent is a proud owner of a six-pack. He lost 16kg and halved his body fat in just three months. He is amazed by what he has been able to achieve alongside his trainer.
“The U.P. experience has been one of the biggest challenges in my life and, to date, the most rewarding. The biggest benefit to me has been to appreciate that hard work, dedication and adjustment – I won’t call it a sacrifice – can yield outstanding results.”
While the 12 weeks ended on a huge high with a great result, starting out was tough. Brent always thought of himself as health conscious but he had to deal with some truths at the beginning.
“I was shocked as to just how bad my diet was. It was loaded with unhealthy habits that in isolation seemed to have been okay, but in aggregate over weeks and months, were having a significant negative impact on my mental and physical wellbeing.
“I was really unhappy with how I looked and my body fat.
“Also, when I first started U.P., I actually had really bad back pain and knee pain. I now realise that was just due to the fact that I was not doing much exercise at all.”
When he started his U.P. regime some of these problems just melted away on their own. His knee and back pain resolved within the first couple of weeks and he started seeing fat loss really quickly.
“I have achieved things I never thought possible such as losing 16kg and over 17% in body fat!
“I’m lifting weights heavier now that I was in my late 20s and early 30s, and I have never felt better.”
For Brent, the magic ingredient was his trainer. He had tried all sorts of different exercise regimes over the past decades – from bootcamps to marathons to self-guided gym sessions. This was his first brush with personal training, and he unabashedly lays the credit of his success at his trainer feet.
“Working with my trainer both inside and out of the gym has been invaluable, and without his support, especially outside of the gym, it would have made my transformation a lot more difficult. When you are working with them in the gym, they are totally dedicated and focused on you and help motivate you and push you.”

“I have discovered how amazing vegetables can be and how they add enjoyment to eating. Learning to move away from processed and a high carb diet has revolutionised my food intake.
